  • Measuring Hydrogen Emissions in Transportation Applications

LI-COR will host a webinar examining methods for accurately measuring hydrogen emissions in transportation applications.

Taking place on August 12, 2026, the session will feature Dr. Derek Johnson, PhD, PE, Professor in the Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering Department at West Virginia University. Johnson will present results from a collaborative research project with Transport Energy Strategies focused on advancing hydrogen emissions measurement for the transportation sector.

Building on established methane measurement methodologies, the research team developed systems for measuring hydrogen leaks at fueling stations and emissions from fuel cell vehicles. The LI-COR LI-7835 Hydrogen/Methane Analyzer was evaluated within these systems alongside electrochemical and thermal conductivity sensors.

The session is relevant to those involved in hydrogen emissions research, leak detection methodology development, and decarbonization initiatives.

    Webinar Topics

    The session will cover:

    • How methane measurement techniques can be adapted for in-situ hydrogen emissions monitoring
    • Performance comparisons between spectroscopic, electrochemical, and thermal conductivity sensors
    • Findings from the real-world evaluation of the LI-7835 Hydrogen/Methane Analyzer
    • Lessons from the research and considerations for future hydrogen emissions measurement studies

    Presenter & Panel

Taylor Thomas, Director of Product Management at LI-COR, will moderate the webinar, with Mark Johnson, Chief Technology Officer at LI-COR, participating as a panelist.
