Calian Group Ltd. is expanding its training and simulation support across multiple NATO commands to prepare Allied forces for increasingly complex, multi-domain conflict environments.
The nature of modern warfare is changing rapidly, driven by lessons from Ukraine, rising activity in the Arctic, and escalating challenges across cyber, space, and multi-domain operations. To address this complex security environment, modern military leaders must be equipped to accelerate decision-making, coordinate across multiple domains, and operate seamlessly with international allies where information moves at unprecedented speeds. Consequently, NATO is prioritizing realistic, adaptive, and large-scale exercises to strengthen collective defence and interoperability.
As a global defence partner delivering training, simulation, operational readiness, and mission support solutions to military organizations in Canada and internationally, Calian has supported NATO initiatives across Europe and allied nations for more than 15 years. Over this period, the company has contributed to more than 75 large-scale NATO exercises to improve the operational effectiveness of headquarters, commanders, and military personnel.
Roch Pelletier, Regional Vice President, Calian Defence Europe/UK, said, “Modern conflict demands more than preparation. It requires agility, rapid decision-making and the confidence to operate effectively in uncertain and fast-moving environments. Our role is to help ensure NATO training reflects the realities of today’s operational landscape, equipping forces and leaders with the skills needed to respond successfully in increasingly complex scenarios.”
The company currently operates as a prime contractor for NATO’s Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), supplying subject matter expertise for operational and strategic-level exercises. Calian also delivers exercise design, scenario development, training delivery, and operational support to the Joint Force Training Centre (JFTC) and broader Alliance initiatives.
Recent operations include Exercise STEADFAST DETERRENCE, a major command-post exercise involving all 32 NATO Allies that focused on threats in the Arctic and High North, where more than 30 Calian personnel supported planning, delivery, and execution. Additionally, Calian specialists provided expertise for Exercise STEADFAST FOXTROT, a NATO wargame led by the Allied Joint Support and Enabling Command (JSEC) that examined the rapid deployment, reinforcement, and sustainment of forces across Europe in contested environments.
Calian has also secured new contracts to support operational planning training for the Netherlands Joint Force Command in The Hague, Joint All-Domain Operations Centre training support to NATO Joint Force Command, and support for NATO’s Future Nuclear Exercise Environment at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).
