Textron Systems Corporation has secured a contract to deliver three Aerosonde Mk. 4.7 Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) to Nigerian security provider Tantita Security Services.
The aircraft are specifically configured for the protection of Nigeria’s vital oil and gas infrastructure, offering a runway-independent solution powered by Hybrid Quadrotor technology. This configuration allows the systems to operate in challenging environments without the need for traditional landing strips. To facilitate international export, the systems are being delivered in a fully ITAR-Free configuration.
This agreement includes options for specialized training and the procurement of additional aircraft to support a planned expansion of capabilities. The deal builds upon a prior Foreign Military Sale contract to Nigeria and leverages the Aerosonde family’s extensive operational history, which includes over 700,000 flight hours globally and active deployment on more than 10 U.S. Navy ships.
David Phillips, Senior Vice President, Air, Land and Sea Systems, commented, “The Aerosonde Mk. 4.7 VTOL UAS is a mature, highly reliable, and industry-proven autonomous solution that will provide Tantita Security Services with transformational capability to execute their security operations. The Aerosonde system’s demonstrated performance and benchmark-setting reliability will enable the Tantita team to expand its capabilities to protect the oil and gas infrastructure essential to Nigerian security and prosperity.”
The Aerosonde system is designed for multi-mission versatility and can be equipped with various payload configurations in both VTOL and fixed-wing formats. Its selection by Tantita Security Services, a provider of security solutions within Nigeria, reflects a requirement for adaptable technology capable of monitoring high-risk sectors effectively.
Textron Systems, a subsidiary of Textron Inc., continues to expand its support for international customers through this award, providing autonomous solutions that have been refined through decades of use in some of the world’s most demanding environments.
