Ardusimple GNSS Compass Starter Kit

ArduSimple has launched a GNSS Compass Starter Kit, offering developers and system integrators everything they need to get started with GNSS positioning as well as high-accuracy heading calculation.

Featuring a dual-antenna RTK-capable GNSS receiver and two lightweight RTK GNSS antennas, the kit is an excellent complement to UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) autopilots, outputting aircraft yaw data as well as position information. Based around Unicore’s UM982, it also provides an ideal way to evaluate the capabilities of this high-precision RTK module.

Out of the box, the system can calculate true north and aircraft heading with an accuracy of less than 0.1 degrees. It requires no calibration, and unlike inertial sensor- and magnetometer-based systems, exhibits no drift error. The kit’s multi-frequency and multi-constellation GNSS receiver delivers positioning data with down to 1 meter of error when used as a standalone unit, and precision can be improved down to millimeter-level when connected to a RTK base station.

Components can be connected to a PC, or interfaced with a variety of different embedded computing and flight controller platforms including Arduino, STM32 Nucleo, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, ROS, and Pixhawk / Ardupilot.
