Domo Tactical Communications (DTC) has introduced Vidar, an advanced two-channel video compression solution engineered for real-time, high-quality video streaming in contested and bandwidth-limited environments.
Designed to maintain seamless video transmission even in unstable or congested networks, Vidar ensures minimal latency and superior video quality, making it an ideal solution for mission-critical applications.
Jacob Randbaek, Business Unit Director, Law Enforcement at DTC said, ”Vidar will position itself as a strong contender in the miniature, low bandwidth video streaming market. Vidar has a significantly smaller footprint than its competitors and has the advantage of interfacing with external modems and RF radios for ultimate resilience. This flexibility in deployment, increases maneuverability, ease of integration and reduces its SWaP. Vidar has no dependence on servers allowing it to stand alone in a mission. As an independent product it can stream directly to a smartphone, to a monitoring site or into a preferred video management system, enhancing mission effect immediately.”
With an ultra-low Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) profile, Vidar is particularly suited for drone-mounted systems and other space-constrained deployments. It enables uninterrupted streaming from remote locations with poor cellular coverage and operates efficiently within private IP networks. Its built-in motion detection functionality allows users to designate areas of interest and capture high-quality still images. Additionally, a configurable pre- and post-event recording feature ensures that vital moments are preserved, with automatic image transfers to secure FTP/SFTP servers for further analysis.
Vidar seamlessly integrates with standard IP and USB cameras, allowing organizations to leverage their existing camera infrastructure for a cost-effective and sustainable deployment. Capable of utilizing public 4G and 5G networks with ultra-low data rates, it provides continuous situational awareness while optimizing video storage in high-quality or cloud-based environments.
Supporting RTSP and WebRTC streaming protocols, Vidar enables smooth integration with existing platforms, whether for centralized video management systems or mobile video playback. Its ability to deliver high-quality, real-time video in challenging environments makes it an essential tool for defense, security, and critical infrastructure applications.
