The future is autonomous and the need for skilled technicians is vital for the development of tomorrow’s workforce.

With that focus, the Fullerton Drone Lab at Fullerton College, in conjunction with the CEO Leadership Alliance, have developed a registered apprenticeship for autonomous systems technicians that will provide a talent pipeline for years to come.

The Southern California based college will train and prepare apprentices for placement as technician apprentices with companies like Anduril Industries and others working in the autonomous systems development field.

This innovative program equips our workforce with the critical skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving fields of AI and autonomous technology,” said Amy Kaufman, Senior Advisor, Talent Strategies for the CEO Leadership Alliance.

Investing in these cutting-edge apprenticeships will help prepare our community for the jobs of tomorrow and ensure that Orange County and the State of California remain at the forefront of innovation and economic growth.

The program includes training in electronics, programming and coding, autonomous systems, piloting and operations, machining, 3D printing, and industrial safety. Once apprentices complete their education, they spend their required on-the-job training working with one of the employer partners. Once this is completed apprentices reach journeymen status and move to the workforce as skilled and experienced technicians.

Like our drone piloting registered apprenticeship, this one will also help connect employers and skilled labor to ensure a pipeline of qualified technicians to meet the ongoing demands of tomorrow’s workforce,” said Jay Seidel, Director and Professor of the Fullerton Drone Lab at Fullerton College.

Applications for the apprenticeship will start being accepted after the official kickoff during National Apprenticeship Week, which is November 17-23, 2024.
