Aerospect Inc., a leading drone technology company in New York City, has obtained a significant FAA 107.39 waiver allowing flight over people using the DJI M300 RTK equipped with the AVSS PRS-M300 drone parachute.

This approval, one of the first for the DJI M300 RTK, was secured with the assistance of Rupprecht Law and will enable Aerospect to conduct critical missions throughout New York City. It is contingent on the use of proper risk mitigation planning and having the DJI M300 RTK equipped with the AVSS PRS-M300 drone parachute.

The waiver represents a major advancement in urban drone operations, particularly for building facade inspections. Aerospect’s innovative approach combines cutting-edge technology with regulatory compliance to enhance urban safety and efficiency.

Jonathon Rupprecht of Rupprecht Law, who submitted the waiver application, emphasized the importance of data in demonstrating operational safety to the FAA. He noted, “AVSS provided key data on their parachute system demonstrating that it had a certain amount of kinetic energy. This data was key to proving to the FAA the operation is safe.”

The approval follows Aerospect’s sister company Xizmo Media’s successful challenge of NYC’s drone ban last year, which led to a new permitting process for drone operations in the city. This latest development further cements Aerospect’s position at the forefront of drone technology implementation in urban environments.

Josh Ogden, CEO of AVSS, commented on the significance of the waiver: “This waiver is a testament to the FAA’s efforts in advancing the safe adoption of commercial drones in the National Airspace. With the drone permitting system being launched by the city last July and this recent FAA approval, we believe there has never been a better time for commercial drone pilots to offer their services and for commercial businesses to update their plans to include flights in New York City.

The combination of the DJI M300 RTK’s capabilities and the AVSS PRS-M300 parachute system allows Aerospect to capture data with unprecedented accuracy, efficiency, and speed. This advancement enables clients to make well-informed decisions swiftly, particularly in the realm of building facade inspections.

As the drone industry continues to evolve, this waiver sets a precedent for future operations in complex urban environments. It highlights the potential for unmanned systems to play a crucial role in enhancing urban safety and infrastructure management.
