Themes that attendees can look forward to hearing about include:

  • Tackling the limitations of camera-based perception
  • RGB-IR image quality challenges and solutions
  • Characteristics of image sensors for precise object detection in automotive ADAS systems
  • Fast deep learning inference for autonomous driving and particle physics
  • Building Automotive Solutions Using Edge AI/TinyML
  • Industrializing High Performance Automotive LiDAR
  • Environment and sensor digitalization for virtual driving in multiple level freeway interchange
  • Solving the challenges of sensor model development in simulation

In-cabin intelligence is a trending topic and application area for sensors right now. Advanced Engineering Leader at Volvo Cars, Danilo Neves, will speak about what Volvo’s vision is of the future in-cabin intelligence experience based on innovations of sensor software and hardware.

Covering the application of driver and occupancy monitoring, companies Nextchip, GEO Semiconductor, and Sony, will all present. For Sony in particular, they will provide analysis based on common available sensor parameters to determine the system level performance, and what it means for object detection probability and distance uncertainty for depth sensing solutions. The analysis will feature some specific common real world traffic scenarios as well as NCAP scenarios for the audience to absorb.

Those joining the virtual AutoSens conference in May will gain important updates from NCAP including the most recent updates and an NCAP roadmap, covering everything the industry needs to prepare for their forthcoming requirements.

Discuss & debate

Panel discussions have become the unassuming champion formats of online events over the last 12 months, and AutoSens is not shy in taking full advantage of this. Four panel discussions have been scheduled this May. The four talking points include the challenges of mass production in autonomous driving; extending the limits of CMOS image sensors; the state of AI for ADAS; and ADAS sensor innovation. Panels feature expert representatives from leading companies Ford, Toyota Research, OmniVision and more.

Discussions staged on these panels and the live Q&A from all speakers at the end of their sessions will extend into the event discussion forums. The AutoSens discussion forum will open up 10 days prior to the event and will be active post-event too, providing an ideal environment to continue the technical discussions about the conference topics and other related themes.

Trending topics

LiDAR continues to be a popular topic within the AutoSens Community, and the event regularly engages in discussion around what the right sensor mix is.

This Spring the programme brings its elite audience of senior engineers and technologists, the opportunity to hear from Continental’s VP and Head of LiDAR Segment. The session will share the Continental perspectives on the need for LiDAR and namely that there is no automated future without long-range LiDAR that can deliver precision resolution at range.

The LiDAR theme continues with a hattrick. AEye, Cepton and ESPROS represent a section in the Agenda to share a combination of technical case studies of recent developments, and audiences being treated to a live driving demo from AEye.

New for 2021

Whilst the agenda strives to bring all the faithful topics and discussions the community relies upon AutoSens for, it’s always exciting to see brand-new subject areas included. One not yet covered by this industry-leading event to date, is the field of flat optics. Donald Peyrot, Optical Team Leader at Valeo will take to the stage to discuss developments in flat optics and their future in automotive through a presentation on the different kinds of flat optics, comparing their pros and cons. An inaugural topic feature not to be missed.

The conference has a new quick-fire innovation showcase to feature this year. During the showcase start-up companies will give delegates a quick insight into their promising technologies. The up-and-coming companies include Nodar, EyeTech and Helm.ai among others.
