Ampex AM-172 HD Video Module

Ampex Data Systems has announced the release of the AM-172, a new High-Definition (HD) module that combines video input and compression into a single module along with increased state-of-art H.264 technology. This provides for decreased SWaP for configurations of up to 12 HD channels per miniR700 Chapter 10 Recorder System configuration. The new HD module features constant bit rates to 20Mbps, supports skip frame recording, and KLV Metadata and Time Code Overlay. In the near future Ampex will implement and release H.265 as part of the product family of recording systems. The AM-172 was jointly engineered and developed by Ampex and its sister division, Delta Digital Video (DDV), implementing DDV’s HD technology.

The AM-172 module is ideal for airborne recording applications, such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

“This product enhancement is an on-going key part of the Ampex Data Systems approach to the fast evolving small form factor, high data rate market,” stated Jim Orahood, General Manager. “We are pleased to offer this improved capability to our expanding and growing customer base.”
