Elma Rugged RoutersElma Electronic, a manufacturer of embedded electronic products, has announced that it is showcasing its line of Cisco routing solutions at the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget. The family of Cisco-based platforms includes a series of fanless, compact systems that reliably deliver fast, secure network performance in mission-critical applications.

“The ever-increasing challenges mil-aero environments face for connectivity and small footprint, reliable computing capabilities directed us to base our new rugged family of networking products on Cisco solutions,” said Tedy Kratenstein, President EMEA for the Elma Group. ”The scalable architecture we’ve used in the design of these platforms enables fast customization of standard products to fit the specific requirements of our customers.”

As an approved Cisco Solutions Technology Integrator (STI), Elma combines its expertise in system integration, networking technology and packaging design across a wide range of environments with the proven solutions of Cisco mobile routing.

The smallest platform offers two routing ports and three switching ports in a size, weight and power (SWaP) optimized rugged chassis used in harsh environments such as defense, mining, emergency services and disaster recovery operations.

For enhanced connectivity options, the next-level system incorporates the same rugged design, while adding up to 25 additional ports, including two Gigabit Ethernet ports. The functional and mechanical construction is modular, enabling custom configurations such as CPU options for complete mission systems as well as additional application specific I/O options and high capacity data storage.

Using the proven Cisco Enterprise IOS and Mobile Ready Net capabilities, the new router family delivers highly secure data, voice and video communications to stationary and mobile nodes across wired and wireless links at the network edge.

Cisco-certified routing protocols enable nodes to quickly adapt to changing network topologies and establish ad hoc networks as nodes move in and out of a fixed network infrastructure.

Radio aware routing and dynamic link control protocols ensure reliable, efficient routing for critical data delivery in real-time, time-sensitive applications. While the use of the familiar Cisco IOS software eases training expenses, Elma’s experience in small form factor system design and embedded computing helps to keep integration costs low while delivering rugged, high performance computing platforms.

Technical Specifications:

  • Cisco-certified routing engine
  • SWaP-optimized for space constrained environments
  • Reliable, secure data transmission for critical applications
