The Skystar 400 Tactical Aerostat

RT LTA Systems Ltd. – a world-class designer, developer, and manufacturer of the Skystar™ family of aerostats for use in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and communications applications – will introduce its Skystar 400 at AUSA 2014. As the newest member of the Skystar tactical aerostat family, the Skystar 400 is the first in the family with four optical fiber cables, and is capable of carrying a heavier payload and enables extended communication volume & range.

The Skystar 400 carries up to 143 lbs (65 kg) at a record altitude of 1500 ft. Using four fiber optic threads in the tether, the system provides premium quality broadband data transmission and high signal rates. Designed for operational uses, it delivers high mobility, rapid deployment capabilities, and smooth performance in the most extreme weather conditions.

According to Major (Ret.) Rami Shmueli, RT LTA’s CEO, “The Skystar 400 defines a new class of products in the aerostat systems market. Similar to a medium size tactical system, the 400 is portable and easy to use. However, its performance is comparable to that of the large strategic aerostat systems that exist in the market today. With the new technology that we introduced into this system, we were able to deliver a high-end system at a fraction of the cost. Today, at a time when defense budgets around the world are being re-structured, the cost-effective Skystar 400 system is already attracting considerable interest.” He continues, “We are also pleased to announce the opening of our subsidiary in the USA – RT Aerostat Systems. The establishment of this company, located in Texas, will enable us to significantly expand our US operations, extend our market depth, and strengthen our position. It will also allow us to establish a US facility for R&D and manufacturing, as well as for the provision of local services and warranties.”
