ASV recruits experts from the Navy and Oceanographic world

With more vehicles in build at any one time than ever before, unmanned marine system producer Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASV) is undergoing a rapid growth phase. These exciting times have seen the UK based company double in size over the past year.

Jon Westbrook CBE joins ASV from almost forty years in the Royal Navy recently retiring in the rank of Rear Admiral. With his wealth of maritime and operational experience Jon will take the role of Board Advisor and will be accompanying the team at DSEI from Tuesday 10th September. Jon’s career has seen him take on a wide spectrum of naval roles, the most recently being Chief of Staff in the NATO Maritime HQ in Naples, Italy. When talking about his new role at ASV Jon said:

“I believe that there are some really exciting opportunities to push the boundaries of autonomous surface vehicles in many and varied maritime applications in both commercial and military operations. I am excited to join a young and vibrant business on the leading edge of the field and on the cusp of major developments and expansion.”

ASV also welcomes Keith Birch as an Oceanographic Consultant. With over forty years oceanographic experience gained by being a part of the National Oceanography Centre, Keith brings a wealth of research and technical expertise. Using this specialised background, Keith will be working on ASV’s newly developed C-Enduro, an oceanographic data collection vehicle. With vehicle build underway Keith will play a key role in promoting the vehicle plus providing design advice on sensors, sampling, and telemetry strategies. He will also help in planning the trials program building towards demonstrating the vehicle’s 90 day mission capability.

Further new additions have been made to the design team, workshop, software development team and the marketing department, raising the total number of employees at ASV to over 30, double the amount of September last year.
