Reliable positioning is essential for autonomous vehicles operating in complex urban environments, where satellite visibility, signal reflections, and temporary GNSS outages can affect navigation accuracy. Archimedes Innovation addresses these challenges through its PBOX tightly-coupled high-precision GNSS/INS integrated navigation receiver, which combines satellite positioning and inertial measurements to support continuous vehicle localization, including in environments with limited satellite coverage. The PBOX tightly-coupled GNSS/INS integrated navigation receiver combines raw-measurement sensor fusion, multi-frequency satellite reception, dual-antenna heading, and temperature-compensated MEMS inertial sensing within a single navigation architecture.
Together, these capabilities are intended to improve positioning continuity and support centimeter-level vehicle localization, while reducing dependence on uninterrupted GNSS reception.
For autonomous driving applications, the integration of satellite and inertial navigation provides a means of addressing the positioning challenges encountered when GNSS alone cannot maintain the accuracy, continuity, or orientation information required by the vehicle.
