Inertial Labs – part of VIAVI Solutions Inc. – has released the IMU-H100, a tactical-grade micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) engineered to deliver precise guidance and control in mission-critical environments.
The IMU-H100 has been developed to support a wide range of platforms, from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and short-range missile systems to precision-guided munitions and industrial automation. This compact, high-performance unit provides accurate measurements of angular velocity and linear acceleration through advanced MEMS gyroscopes and accelerometers. It serves as a foundational component in broader navigation architectures, including inertial navigation systems (INS), attitude and heading reference systems (AHRS), and motion reference units (MRUs), supporting autonomous operations across land, sea, air, and defense sectors.
With a gyroscopic bias instability of 1 degree per hour and an accelerometer bias of 1 mg, the IMU-H100 is classified as tactical-grade, offering exceptional performance in a footprint of just 5 in³ and a total weight of 160 grams. Its ruggedized design ensures stable operation under extreme conditions—resisting shock, vibration, rapid acceleration, temperature swings, and acoustic noise—making it suitable for even the most demanding environments.
Engineered for seamless integration, the IMU-H100 supports both Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) and Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC) interfaces, enabling compatibility with legacy systems and simplifying retrofit applications. The unit is ITAR-free, manufactured domestically in the U.S., and features short lead times to accelerate deployment in time-sensitive programs.
Jamie Marraccini, Vice President, Inertial Labs Products at VIAVI, said, “The IMU-H100 is the latest addition to our large family of tactical-grade IMUs and couples an exceptional gyro and accelerometer repeatability bias with industry-leading performance and ruggedness. Its design builds on over 20 years of innovation and enables the guidance and stabilization required by both the commercial sector and aerospace and defense applications worldwide.”
The launch of the IMU-H100 is said to underscore Inertial Labs’ continued commitment to delivering high-reliability navigation solutions that meet the evolving needs of unmanned platforms and smart weapon systems.
