Section17 Ltd. has launched ‘Aviano – EDU’, a new suite of online tools which include processed weather data feeds and online hosted software. The tools are designed to support education and training, recreational, professional and enterprise applications in the aviation industry.

Aviano – EDU was created to help students pursuing pilot, flight dispatcher, unmanned aerial systems and other aviation‐related training, to secure a strong understanding of the flight planning process through an intuitive online portal. Aviano – EDU enables students, their instructors and educational institutions to benefit from advanced visualizations, including 4D weather and aircraft flight paths, without the need to install or purchase expensive software.

The concept of incorporating 4D weather and airspace visualizations to support flight training was developed through research conducted by Section17 co‐founder Dr. Andrew Shepherd. Following its initial publication in 2012, interest in the approach has grown due to the significance of study results and the potential positive ramifications for the aviation industry. International recognition has also developed with the original research and overview of what would become the Aviano product presented during the Fall 2015 Oxford Education Research Symposium at Oxford University in England.

“After more than eight years of research and concept development, it is great to launch our initial online services with Aviano – EDU,” said Andrew Shepherd, managing partner of Section17, Ltd. “We believe that our advanced visualizations, including 4D weather and aircraft flight profiles, will be a game‐changer for students developing traditional aviation flight planning skills.”

Aviano – EDU allows users to leverage advanced visualizations and analytics in an intuitive online interface providing 2D map and 3D globe views, visualized aeronautical charts, and 4D aircraft flight routes and weather to support development of traditional flight planning capabilities.

“We see the huge potential for the whole suite of Aviano data and online software products and are proud to be Section17’s first Aviano customer,” added Dr. Ronald Storm, Chief Scientist for Advanced Technologies at The Perduco Group.
