UTC Aerospace Systems (now Collins Aerospace) has announced the introduction of the Cloud Cap Technology Piccolo Nano UAV autopilot, the smallest addition to Piccolo family of flight management systems. Piccolo Nano has been designed to meet the size and cost requirements of small unmanned aerial vehicles, whilst offering all the capabilities and features required by the most sophisticated UAVs.

Fully compatible with the software and feature capabilities of other products within the Piccolo autopilot family, the Piccolo Nano autopilot provides a small, lightweight, flexible architecture to support the myriad of designs in small hand launched or uniquely configured UAVs. This unenclosed, distributable autopilot system provides maximum installation flexibility to the system integrator and is a perfect fit in small UAVs where the vehicle structure provides the enclosure and the autopilot components need to be distributed within the airframe’s available space.

The Piccolo Nano UAV autopilot is expected to be priced in the $1000 range, addressing the requirement for economy within small UAV systems.

Piccolo Nano is a professional grade, fully supported UAV autopilot and, as with the Piccolo SL and Picccolo II, can be upgraded to provide DGPS precision auto land, moving baseline landing support and VTOL support.
