Wind River, a world leader in embedded and mobile software, will exhibit at AUVSI’s Unmanned Systems North America 2012, August 7–9 in Las Vegas, NV. Wind River will showcase the latest embedded software capabilities supporting unmanned systems.

Wind River will offer a range of demonstrations featuring its comprehensive portfolio of software solutions, including solutions focused on software security and safety, as well as embedded system simulation and automated test environments for unmanned systems.

Wind River will showcase a secure Android tablet that combines situational awareness with communications and control for unmanned systems. Securing mobile tactical edge devices on ad-hoc networks, as well as mobile devices on commercial networks, requires leveraging advancements in trusted silicon capability, extending certified secure operating system features to Android, and weaving in application-level security functionality into the secure embedded system fabric.

The demo will feature Wind River’s secure Android platform that combines the National Security Agency–developed Security Enhanced (SE) Android with Wind River security solution accelerators, a series of software modules to help jumpstart Android development and rapidly integrate compelling features and functionalities to devices. On top of this secure foundation, the company will demonstrate a multi-windowing capability that allows multiple Android applications to run simultaneously.

A founding member and original commercialization partner of the Open Handset Alliance, Wind River has invested significantly in the design and implementation of comprehensive security layers on a broad spectrum of Android devices, and continues to lead efforts behind Android’s expansion into traditional embedded device categories. The company’s deep Android expertise, combined with its extensive background and technologies for the aerospace and defense market segment, puts Wind River in a unique position to address the challenges and key considerations in securing Android across a variety of use cases.

Additional demonstrations taking place at Wind River’s booth No. 2824 will include:

  • Safe and secure FACE (Future Airborne Capability Environment) for unmanned systems with Wind River’s VxWorks® 653: This time- and space-partitioning operating system, which has been certified to DO-178B Level A and is compliant with DO-178C, is used to create robust platforms for both airborne and ground-based systems.
  • Unmanned platform simulation with Wind River Simics: This full system simulation solution creates a high-performance virtual environment in which any electronic system—from a single board up to complex, heterogeneous, multi-core systems—can be defined, developed, and deployed.
  • Automated testing for secure mobility with Wind River’s testing solutions: The Wind River test management solution is an automated test framework that identifies high-risk segments in production code, enabling change-based, optimized testing. The company’s framework for automated software testing is designed to help developers improve the quality and compliance of Android-based device designs, and includes the full Android Compatibility Test Suite (CTS), open source tests, and Wind River–authored tests.
