LynuxWorks™, Inc, a world leader in the embedded safety and security software market, today announced LynxSecure support of the Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions’ VPX3-1256 3U VPX Intel® Core™ i7 Single Board Computer. Curtiss-Wright also plans, in the near future, to annouce support for LynxSecure on its Intel® Core™ i7 3rd generation processor-based VPX3-1257 single-board computer. LynxSecure is a separation kernel and embedded hypervisor that provides a secure environment in which multiple guest operating systems and their applications can execute at the same time, in their own virtual partitions, without compromising security, reliability or data integrity.

Curtiss-Wright’s VPX3-1256 combines an advanced Intel embedded processor, the Intel® Core™ i7 2nd generation quad-core processor, with the high-bandwidth small-form-factor advantages of 3U Open VPX board architecture to deliver a high performance virtualization platform for advanced military embedded systems.

The multi-core and virtualization support that LynxSecure offers with these next-generation, ruggedized, single-board-computers with quad-core processors helps maximize the performance and security of applications running on a wide selection of virtualized guest operating systems and allows them to take full advantage of the OpenVPX board architecture.

LynxSecure gives developers the ability to directly assign devices on the VPX3-1256 to specific guest operating systems, providing hardware separation and security at the lowest system level, and offering a Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) environment for true multi-domain computing. The SBC offers two Gigabit Ethernet ports that LynxSecure can assign to different guests to maintain absolute security across multi-domain networks, resulting in cost-saving consolidation of hardware.

The VPX3-1256 comes with an Intel Core i7 quad-core processor running at 2.1 GHz and 6MB L3 Cache. It provides up to 16GB of DDR3 SDRAM and built-in Intel Graphics support. The 3U VPX form factor supports x8 PCI Express Gen 2 and is ruggedized to satisfy the most demanding fielded applications.

“The combination of our LynxSecure product with the Curtiss-Wright embedded system really offers a truly unique mix of high security with high performance in a small-form-factor system”, said John Blevins, Director of Marketing for LynuxWorks, “This is very well suited to the next generation of vehicle hosted multi-domain systems used to support worldwide mobile military forces.”

LynxSecure provides one of the most flexible secure virtualization solutions for use in Intel®-architecture-based embedded and computer systems. Designed to maintain the highest levels of military security, and built from the ground up to achieve it, LynxSecure offers an industry-leading combination of security with functionality, allowing developers and integrators to use the latest software and hardware technologies to build complex multi-OS based systems. LynxSecure offers two virtualization schemes, para-virtualized guest OSes such as Linux and LynxOS-SE offering maximum performance, and fully virtualized guest OSes such as Windows, Solaris and Chromium OS requiring no changes to the guest OS. Another key feature that LynxSecure offers is the ability to run guest OSes that have Symmetric Multi-processing (SMP) capabilities. The quad-core Intel® Core™ i7 processor on the VPX3-1256 makes this feature a reality by allowing one of the guest OSes to run across multiple cores, offering performance never seen before in a virtualized embedded system.

LynuxWorks is demonstrating LynxSecure running on the VPX3-1256 in our booth at the IA EXPO.
