RE2, Inc., a Carnegie Mellon spin-off specializing in agile defense robotics, today announced the general availability of the RE2 JAUS Software Development Kit (SDK) Version 1.0 and its comprehensive RE2 Solution Services. JAUS (Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems) is a Department of Defense (DoD) mandated software-messaging protocol developed to establish a standard for unmanned ground, surface, and underwater vehicles, enabling interoperability between unmanned systems and components.

The RE2 JAUS SDK provides military and commercial unmanned systems developers with a comprehensive toolkit to design and implement a JAUS-compliant system. The RE2 Solution Services provide unmanned systems vendors with a single supplier for all of their JAUS software, development, and engineering requirements.

“We developed the RE2 JAUS SDK to provide unmanned systems vendors with a complete toolkit to build JAUS compliant systems, while reducing development time and program costs,” said Jorgen Pedersen, president and CEO of RE2, Inc. “We’re finding that in addition to the JAUS SDK, DoD contractors are requesting both software development and system integration services. We’re pleased to be able to offer a comprehensive solution for JAUS compliance, while promoting the JAUS standard within the unmanned systems market.”

The RE2 JAUS SDK includes:

· Development libraries, including message packing/unpacking and UDP/IP delivery

· Routing binaries, including node managers and communicators

· Software documentation, including a User’s Guide, an interactive HTML-based manual, and component examples

In addition to the RE2 JAUS SDK, RE2 provides expert solution services and consulting to the rapidly growing unmanned systems community. The RE2 Solution Services include everything needed to develop a JAUS-compliant unmanned system, including:

· JAUS Software Development

· JAUS System Integration

· JAUS Implementation Training

· Custom Robotics Engineering Services

Prior to the release of version 1.0, RE2 conducted beta testing with unmanned systems vendors and research universities, including AnthroTronix, Inc., DRS Unmanned Technologies, Bluefield State University, and Drexel University.

“Bluefield State’s Center for Applied Research and Technology has been competing in the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition for several years. A JAUS requirement was added to this year’s competition, so our team had to quickly get up to speed on JAUS and learn how to implement JAUS onto our unmanned ground vehicle. We contacted RE2 and within a few days were able to meet the competition’s JAUS requirements using the RE2 JAUS SDK,” stated Bruce Mutter, Director, Bluefield State College Center for Applied Research and Technology. “We are extremely pleased with the SDK and the quality of service provided by the RE2 team.”

RE2 has extensive experience creating and integrating JAUS compliant systems. RE2 is partnered with Carnegie Mellon to develop JAUS-compliant software for the Robotic Systems Joint Project Office Gladiator Tactical Ground Vehicle (TUGV) program. The Company also designed a JAUS-compliant Small Robot Infrastructure Toolkit under a US Army TACOM Phase I SBIR program. RE2 is an active member of the JAUS Working Group (http://www.jauswg.org). President and CEO, Jorgen Pedersen, serves as the Chairman of the JAUS Weapons Payload Committee and sits on the JAUS Executive Committee.
