Teledyne Marine has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M Subs, a UK-based innovator, to establish a strategic partnership centered on maritime autonomy and unmanned systems.
This collaboration aims to leverage the combined expertise of both organizations to pursue business opportunities within the UK Royal Navy and other international naval programs. The technical scope of the partnership involves integrating vehicle platforms with autonomy systems, multibeam sonars, acoustic communications, cameras, lighting, and subsea connectors to provide high-readiness solutions for defense and commercial maritime operations.
Operational cooperation is already in progress, featuring the successful integration of Teledyne SeaBat multibeam sonars on Zero Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) platforms during REPMUS 2025. Further demonstrations involving the deployment of Slocum gliders and Osprey class AUVs from Zero USV systems are scheduled to take place in the UK and Iceland during the first and second quarters of 2026.
A primary objective of the alliance is to support specific UK Royal Navy priorities, including potential joint cooperation for Atlantic Bastion and MHC Block 2. The move draws upon Teledyne’s significant existing footprint in the UK, where it employs approximately 2,700 people across 18 sites, alongside the specialized capabilities of M Subs.
Brian Maguire, Teledyne Marine Chief Operating Officer and Vehicles General Manager, stated, “This collaboration represents a significant step forward in advancing maritime technologies. By combining our expertise, we aim to deliver innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of the UK and international markets.”
Brett Phaneuf, Director of M Subs, added, “It has been a pleasure to work with Teledyne to integrate the myriad sensors and devices they bring to bear on the marine and defense space; they have proved nimble and forward leaning in our work together, necessary qualities from flagship companies partnered with small SMEs for us to be successful in the future when serving the nation…it’s also been a great deal of fun.”
The collaboration brings together established technologies already utilized by NATO and AUKUS navies. Teledyne has delivered over 12,000 APEX floats and approximately 1,275 Slocum gliders to date, with Gavia AUV systems currently in use by 18 different navies. By merging these proven hardware pedigrees with M Subs’ autonomy innovations, the partnership seeks to enhance the technical capabilities of Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) in complex environments.
