Footage captured by a custom-made Boxfish Robotics Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), deployed by scientists from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) at the University of Tasmania, is set to premiere on YouTube this November.
The six-minute video documents a key monitoring survey conducted in the Beagle Marine Park and will be available to watch on Wednesday, 19 November at 7 pm AEDT.
In August of last year, the IMAS scientists deployed the Boxfish ROV in the challenging conditions of the Bass Strait to revisit the depths of the Beagle Marine Park. The team successfully completed a monitoring survey across 50 transects within this protected area, which holds geological significance as it was once part of the old land bridge connecting Victoria and Tasmania.

The upcoming six-minute video highlights the use of the ROV in challenging conditions, while simultaneously showcasing the diverse underwater environment, including vibrant sponge gardens, sightings of sharks, a shipwreck, alongside footage of above-water action.
This voyage was supported by funding from the Australian Government under the National Environment Science Program and the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS).
