Nano D-Shaped Connectors for Unmanned Applications
Nano-D connectors are the smallest available D-shaped connectors, with a contact spacing of 0.635mm (0.025″) and pins and receptacles laid out in one or two rows. The D-shaped socket or plug provides a reliable mechanical connection and ensures secure alignment and fit.
Nano-D connectors feature low weight and high contact density, and are thus used for highly SWaP (size, weight and power)-constrained applications, such as extremely small drones and robotic vehicles.
Rugged Nano D Connectors for Harsh Environments
Many nano-D interconnects use twist pin contact technology to provide a reliable connection even in harsh environmental conditions. Heavy shock and vibration can be encountered by UAV nano-D connectors, with shock being an issue during rough landings and vibration occurring in flight, especially for multirotor systems. Connectors used for military and aerospace systems may need to meet the MIL-STD-32139 specification.
Tool-Free Latching
In addition to standard jackscrew hardware, nano-D connectors may have latching mechanisms to provide extra connection security and prevent unwanted disconnects. Tool-free latching is ideal for field-swappable components such as cameras and sensor payloads, batteries and data storage devices.
Termination Options
Nano-D connector termination options include wiring and PCB SMT soldering, and panel and PCB mount are common mounting options. Nano-D connectors can often be supplied by manufacturers with flying leads, in jumper assemblies, or as part of a custom wiring harness.
