Volatus Aerospace has provided a strategic update on its partnership with Dufour Aerospace to develop medium-payload cargo capabilities designed for environments with limited infrastructure.
The collaboration, which began in early 2025, centers on adapting Dufour’s hybrid eVTOL aircraft into a runway-independent platform. This initiative targets three primary sectors: Arctic and remote operations, military and government logistics support, and specialized commercial applications such as critical infrastructure and emergency response. By leveraging Volatus’ experience in cold-weather environments, the partnership aims to create operational concepts suitable for austere regions where traditional runway access is unavailable.
To support this development, Volatus has installed a dedicated flight simulator at its Toronto facility. This equipment is currently being used to train pilots and establish a platform for customer evaluation and mission rehearsal. The goal is to integrate the aircraft into the broader operational offerings of Volatus, which provides dual-use crewed and uncrewed systems alongside aerial intelligence services to public and private sectors.
Glen Lynch, Chief Executive Officer of Volatus Aerospace, commented, “The focus of our work with Dufour Aerospace is on building operational capability, not promoting individual performance metrics. Governments and commercial operators alike are increasingly looking for reliable, runway-independent cargo solutions that can operate in remote and challenging environments. This partnership allows us to apply our operational, regulatory, and training expertise to help shape such a capability.”
The development process emphasizes logistics resilience and operational flexibility. By assessing how these platforms can complement existing aviation solutions, the companies are exploring uses in remote industrial operations and defense resupply missions.
Sascha Hardegger, Chief Executive Officer of Dufour Aerospace, added, “Working with Volatus provides valuable operational insight as we continue to mature our hybrid eVTOL platform. The partnership supports the development of practical, deployable logistics solutions that address both government and commercial requirements.”
While the partnership continues to focus on evaluation and training, Volatus noted that any future decisions regarding manufacturing participation or full operational deployment remain subject to further assessment and regulatory approvals.
