Alpha Unmanned Systems, a developer of tactical fuel-powered helicopter UAVs, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Navantia S.A., to develop future collaboration opportunities in ship-borne Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
The agreement establishes a framework for the companies to jointly explore synergies in these systems, strengthening their combined naval offerings for both domestic and international clients.
As part of this collaboration, Alpha’s A900 tactical UAV helicopter system will be considered for inclusion in Navantia’s technological portfolio, enhancing the company’s integrated naval solutions and overall unmanned systems capabilities.
The A900 is designed specifically for operation in maritime environments, providing powerful Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities that improve the situational awareness of naval forces. It can carry payloads, such as electro-optical/infrared cameras, communication relays, and maritime radars.
This A900 system is already operational with border control forces and navies across 12 international markets, where it supports missions such as anti-piracy, maritime security, coastal surveillance, and search and rescue. Its proven performance at sea makes it an ideal unmanned aerial platform for integration into Navantia’s high-technology naval vessels.
Juan de la Cueva, Commercial and Business Development Director at Navantia, commented, “This agreement represents an important step forward in integrating unmanned technologies into our naval platforms. By partnering with Alpha, we are expanding the range of innovative solutions we can deliver to our customers, enabling more flexible and effective surveillance operations at sea.”
Eric Freeman, CEO of Alpha Unmanned Systems, added, “We are proud to partner with Navantia, a world leader in naval innovation. The integration of Alpha’s UAV systems into Navantia’s portfolio reflects our shared commitment to providing advanced and reliable unmanned solutions that meet the evolving needs of naval forces worldwide.”
This strategic alliance highlights the shared commitment of both companies to innovation and accelerating the adoption of unmanned systems across the global maritime sector.
