In this video, OceanAlpha presents the L42 Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV), a long-endurance survey platform designed for extended offshore operations requiring high persistence and flexible payload integration.
The video outlines the L42’s hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system, which supports up to approximately 810 nautical miles (around 1,500 km) of range and up to eight days of continuous low-speed operation, as well as its redundant propulsion architecture with dual generators and four electric thrusters. It also examines the vessel’s payload configuration, including its 500 kg payload capacity, dual moon pools, dual lifting mechanisms, and support for towed and over-the-side survey systems such as SVP probes and side-scan sonar.
The presentation also covers the L42’s communications and control architecture, including satellite connectivity and the USV 6.3 control system, along with its transport and deployment concept and examples of its use in hydrographic survey, offshore wind, and oil and gas operations.
