The Bundeswehr has selected AVILUS to carry out the “Grille” rescue drone innovation project, supporting the expansion of uncrewed airborne capabilities for future medical evacuation missions and logistics operations.
The contract, concluded in early April 2026, covers the “Uncrewed Qualified Airborne Patient Transport” project. AVILUS will provide two operational uncrewed aerial systems, conduct flight trials and deliver operator training.
Practical testing with the Bundeswehr Medical Service will be used to adapt the system to the specific operational requirements of the armed forces.
The programme will begin with a training phase for military personnel, followed by intensive flight operations. The trials will support the development of innovative technologies and the targeted adaptation of modern uncrewed systems to the requirements of an uninterrupted medical evacuation chain.
Lieutenant General (Medical Corps) Dr. Ralf Hoffmann, Commander of the Bundeswehr Joint Medical Service, said, “Innovative solutions are more important than ever to ensure a resilient and effective medical evacuation chain in the future.”
Niclas Bähr, CEO of AVILUS, added, “We are proud to take this step together with the Bundeswehr and to contribute to the future and resilience of the medical evacuation chain.”
