The German Federal Aviation Office, the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA), has completed a successful audit of Avilus as part of the continuation process for the company’s Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC).
Conducted in mid-April, the examination focused on operations governed by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947, specifically Annex Part B and Annex Part C. The audit process involved a comprehensive evaluation of the organization’s Flight Department and the Wespe crew. Key areas of scrutiny included the Safety Management System, the Compliance Monitoring System, and various operations associated with the LUC.
This audit serves as a maturity checkpoint for Avilus, confirming that the unmanned aircraft systems currently in place are effectively functioning in real-world operations rather than just existing as documented procedures. The validation by the LBA underscores the company’s capability to manage increasing operational complexity and ensures that existing risk assessments remain appropriate for expanded flight activities.
For Avilus, the audit is an important maturity checkpoint and confirms that the unmanned aircraft we have in place are not only documented, but also functioning effectively in real operations. It also validates our ability to manage growing operational complexity and helps ensure that our risk assessments remain suitable for expanded activities.
Moving forward, the organization intends to maintain its LUC status through a commitment to safety and a “just culture.” This approach is designed to support safe, compliant, and scalable unmanned aircraft operations while fostering the development of robust aviation processes.
As a next step, we will continue to live the LUC as part of a strong safety and “just culture”, maintaining safe, compliant, and scalable unmanned aircraft operations while supporting the continuous development of robust aviation processes.
