Heven AeroTech has been awarded a Basic Ordering Agreement by the U.S. Army Contracting Command – Redstone Arsenal to support the streamlined acquisition of hydrogen-powered Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS).
This contract vehicle, which became effective in January 2026, allows Army units to procure Heven’s Z1 long-endurance drone and its accompanying hydrogen generation systems. The agreement was made possible by the Z1’s qualification under the Blue UAS Select program. By establishing this pre-negotiated pathway, the Army can reduce procurement friction and accelerate the fielding of advanced UAS capabilities.
The Z1 system is designed for extended-duration operations, using hydrogen fuel cells to enable longer endurance than battery-powered systems. The agreement directly supports the U.S. Army UAS Project Office’s objectives regarding rapid deployment, testing and evaluation, system integration, and the modernization of existing uncrewed fleets.
Michael Buscher, Heven AeroTech President of U.S. Operations, commented, “This agreement represents an important step in reducing procurement friction for Army units seeking advanced UAS capabilities. Hydrogen-powered systems offer extended endurance, logistical flexibility, and reduced dependency on traditional fuel and battery supply chains.
“Through this BOA, we are positioned to provide Army units with a pre-negotiated acquisition pathway to Heven’s systems, enabling faster procurement and accelerating our ability to support evolving mission requirements with resilient, domestically aligned technology.”
Heven AeroTech focuses on domestically aligned technology that strengthens the American drone industrial base. The award of the BOA aligns with broader federal initiatives, including the Executive Order on “Unleashing American Drone Dominance,” which prioritizes the maturation and sustainment of U.S.-manufactured drone systems and the strengthening of U.S. drone capabilities.
