Ampex TuffCORD Data RecorderAmpex Data Systems has announced the release of its new TuffCORD Compact Onboard Recording Device, designed for challenging environments such as unmanned aircraft. Using multiple gigabit Ethernet interfaces, as well as expansion capability for options such as HD video, MIL-STD-1553B, CAN bus, etc., the compact TuffCORD provides a flexible and capable recorder/file server for operation in harsh environments over an extended temperature range. With throughput comfortably in excess of 150 MB/s, and memory modules with current capacity of 4TB, a recording duration of more than four hours at the maximum operational rate is available.

In addition, by using trusted software and FIPS certified modules, the TuffCORD offers high-speed encryption and decryption in accordance with the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES 256, certified to FIPS 197) and is therefore a part of a FIPS 140-2 computing platform solution. The TuffCORD weighs less than 6 lbs., dissipates 15 watts or less power (dependent on workload), and occupies less than 110 cubic inches. The TuffCORD system is managed by the Ampex Common Compute Environment (ACCE) Software System, designed to be FACE compliant, which provides services for NAS and network recording and monitoring.

“This opportunity is an ongoing development of Ampex Data Systems’ approach to high speed cloud storage on airborne platforms, and is an ongoing key part of the Ampex Data Systems approach to the quickly evolving small form factor, high data rate market,” commented Jim Orahood, General Manager at Ampex.
