The U.S. Air Force has designated the YFQ-42A uncrewed jet fighter from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) as its Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) prototype, set to play a pivotal role in securing air dominance in future conflicts. The aircraft leverages cutting-edge autonomous capabilities and seamless integration with crewed aircraft.

GA-ASI’s YFQ-42A is designed to provide a combination of flexibility, affordability, and mission effectiveness. As part of the Air Force’s push for Autonomous Collaborative Platforms, this semi-autonomous aircraft will serve as a force multiplier, enhancing mission capabilities while maintaining air superiority. By integrating seamlessly with both current and next-generation crewed aircraft, the YFQ-42A will significantly expand operational possibilities while ensuring continued air dominance.

The YFQ-42A will enable autonomous and crewed-uncrewed teaming, providing an adaptable solution to complex air combat scenarios in contested environments. The Air Force’s decision to designate this aircraft as the Mission Design Series (MDS) for its CCA prototype demonstrates its importance in the future of air warfare.
