AIR has successfully completed the first flight of its Production AIR Cargo-Heavy Lift UAS, a VTOL platform designed with a payload capacity of approximately 550 lbs and a 70-cubic-foot cargo bay
Unlike early-stage proof-of-concept systems, this production platform is a mission-ready system developed over two years through hundreds of flights and direct customer feedback from real-world deployments. This development process ensured the aircraft could perform consistently in challenging conditions, including dust and darkness, across sustained mission cycles.
Rani Plaut, CEO and Co-Founder of AIR, said, “This flight milestone reflects what AIR has been building toward. We’ve spent two years refining this aircraft against real operational demands, not benchmarks or simulations. Delivering that now, at this scale, is what we set out to do.”
Engineered for high-volume mass production, the heavy-lift UAS features next-generation motors, an advanced aircraft battery system, and matured avionics. The platform utilizes enhanced autonomy and flight logic to enable repeatable mission execution with reduced human intervention. These technical advancements are aimed at operators seeking to scale unmanned logistics safely and efficiently.
Chen Rosen, CTO and Co-Founder of AIR, said, “This next-generation configuration taking flight is the culmination of years of engineering iteration and direct operational learning. Every design decision, from the motors to the flight logic, was stress-tested against what operators actually encounter in the field. The result is an aircraft built not just to fly, but to work.”
The aircraft is categorized as a Group 4 UAS by the U.S. Department of Defense, making it a rare available VTOL option for high-demand military requirements. Its dual-use architecture allows it to serve defense needs for flexible logistics in contested or infrastructure-limited environments, while also addressing commercial and humanitarian requirements. These applications include mid-mile delivery, maritime resupply, and rapid aid deployment in remote areas.
To date, over 25 units of the AIR Cargo-Heavy Lift UAS have been ordered and paid for, signaling strong market demand for the platform’s autonomous heavy-lift capabilities.
