European defence technology company Alpine Eagle is scaling production of its Sentinel counter-drone system to meet accelerating demand from governments seeking rapid solutions against large-scale aerial threats.
The expansion follows a period of significant growth for the firm, which has seen its team increase from 12 employees in 2024 to 50 in 2026. Management plans to reach a headcount of 100 this year to support production requirements. Sentinel, which combines an airborne radar and sensor network with software-defined architecture, is designed to detect, track, and defeat hostile drones using onboard airborne interceptors.
The system was first deployed with the German Bundeswehr as a launch customer in 2024. Since then, Alpine Eagle has secured contracts with three additional European customers and expanded its operations into the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The company is currently participating in a defence innovation programme in the Netherlands and recently conducted counter-drone trials in Ukraine. It also participated in Project Vanaheim, a joint counter-UAS trial involving armed forces from the United States and the United Kingdom.
Jan-Hendrik Boelens, Founder and CEO of Alpine Eagle, said, “Defence ministries are increasingly looking for systems that can be delivered quickly and scaled as operational demand grows. By building on existing industrial capacity and integrating it with our own sensor and software architecture, we can provide counter-drone capability that is both deployable and scalable. I’m incredibly proud of what the Alpine Eagle team has achieved over the past year. The reality is that threats facing Europe are higher than they have been for decades and drones are transforming the battlefield faster than traditional defence systems can adapt. Our mission is to ensure democracies have the tools they need to defend their airspace in this new era of warfare.”
The company’s rapid trajectory reflects a broader shift in allied defence markets, where there is an increasing requirement for capabilities that can be deployed quickly across wide areas to counter evolving drone technology.
