Freefly Systems has launched the Astro Prime, a Blue certified small unmanned aerial system (sUAS) platform and powered by Auterion’s onboard software platform, AuterionOS.

The latest AuterionOS has improved the support for the Sony ILX-LR1 – a professional camera designed specifically for industrial UAV applications with a 61.0 effective megapixel, full-frame image sensor and interchangeable E-mount lenses.

The AuterionOS enhancements optimize the computing performances, introduce full support for video recording operations and significantly improve the video streaming quality when working with Sony ILX-LR1.

The Blue UAS framework facilitates rapid and cost-effective procurement of sUAS within the Department of Defense (DoD). This strategic initiative enables Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with Blue-certified vehicles to engage in direct sales to government agencies.

While the Short Range Reconnaissance (SRR) use case is prevalent, numerous government entities operate Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) beyond this scope. These include forestry and agricultural departments, urban planning agencies, and energy sector entities conducting infrastructure inspections (e.g., power line surveys). For these organizations, Blue UAS certification is often a critical operational requirement.

In scenarios where Blue UAS certification is a key requirement, non-compliance could significantly impede an agency’s ability to perform their jobs.

AuterionOS has demonstrated its ability as a cyber-secure operating system, enabling drone manufacturers like Freefly to develop interoperable systems that comply with both the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and Blue UAS certification standards.
