The VG221-MS is an open-loop fiber optic gyro engineered for size- and weight-constrained unmanned platforms. With a volume of just 10 ml and a weight of 25 grams, the unit integrates optics and control electronics within a compact µ-metal housing, enabling straightforward integration into tightly packed assemblies. Designed for UAVs, drones, gimbal payloads, robotics, and image stabilization systems, the device delivers reliable angular rate sensing while maintaining minimal impact on overall system SWaP.
The VG221-MS provides a 400 °/s input range, 1 °/h bias (Allan variance minimum), and 0.05 °/√h angular random walk, supported by a 1 kHz second-order low-pass filter. A scale factor stability of 0.03% (day-to-day RMS) ensures repeatable performance, while magnetic sensitivity of 0.1 °/h/Gauss (typical) is mitigated through integrated shielding. Power consumption is limited to 0.3 W from a +5 V supply with a 0.05-second start-up time. The series is fully ITAR-free, simplifying global deployment across professional unmanned systems programs.
