Discover cutting-edge solutions from 18 leading global suppliers
Avy has joined forces with the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) in a strategic partnership aimed at advancing autonomous, sustainable drone technology.
As part of this collaboration, NLR has acquired Avy’s latest Aera Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for extensive testing and operational evaluation. NLR will also use its expertise to assess and optimize Avy’s operations, enhancing their capabilities across various areas.
The Aera, known for its emission-free operation and autonomous flight beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), is expected to play a key role in NLR’s research programs. These programs are dedicated to exploring innovative aerospace solutions, particularly in emergency response, surveillance, and time-sensitive logistics. With its long-range capabilities—up to 100 kilometers—and cutting-edge safety features, the Aera is said to be perfectly suited to support NLR’s groundbreaking initiatives.
In addition, the collaboration involves NLR performing a detailed audit of Avy’s processes to ensure operational excellence. This review will ensure that Avy’s workflows are in line with industry-leading standards, optimizing performance in areas such as design, manufacturing, deployment, and regulatory compliance.
Benjamin van der Hilst, CEO of Avy, said, “Partnering with NLR is a significant milestone for Avy. Their expertise in aerospace innovation and rigorous operational auditing will accelerate our mission to revolutionize UAV solutions while maintaining the highest standards of quality and sustainability.”
Michel Peters, CEO of Royal NLR, added, “It is a core objective of NLR to support the Dutch aviation industry in establishing a strong position in the UAM supply chain. Therefore, we’re very pleased to test the potential of this sustainable and innovative designed Dutch drone in various applications while supporting Avy in enhancing their operational frameworks.”
