Marinvent has been awarded C2-MTL’s Prize for Aviation & Aerospace for its adaptive flight test-bed project. Marinvent’s prize is one of ten awarded each year by C2-MTL in recognition of the most creative projects that provide solutions to real commercial issues in a number of sectors.

Set in the creative hotbed of Montréal, C2-MTL is a collaborative and immersive conference that inspires right and left brain thinking through a series of exhibitions, multimedia presentations, conceptual spaces, projections, collaborative workshops and a creativity boot camp. All in an innovation village designed specifically for C2-MTL.

Curated by international creative company Sid Lee in collaboration with founding partner Cirque du Soleil and content & media partner, Fast Company, C2-MTL is reinventing the business conference to find Creative Answers to Commercial Questions.

Marinvent’s adaptive flight test-bed project has created a real breakthrough capability for companies and safety regulators that are looking to develop, evaluate, test, certify Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) technologies and integrate UAS into civil airspace. Marinvent has substantially re-architected the avionics and safety systems on its Piaggio Avanti P-180 aircraft and integrated an on-board UAS ground station and satellite link to allow them to control and fly the vehicle just as if it were unmanned, but with a safety pilot on-board at all times. This, along with the aircraft’s unique processing and avionics systems architecture allows Marinvent to quickly fly novel avionics and UAS systems concepts in civil airspace without the need to undertake expensive and time-consuming aircraft modifications to do so.

“Our adaptive flight test-bed is one of the simplest, most economical and least risk ways for UAS manufacturers, UAS systems developers and Regulatory Authorities to evolve the state of the UAS industry by gathering real-world evaluation and test data because we can fly these systems today in civil airspace without going experimental,” said Phil Cole, VP Business Development at Marinvent Corporation. “We are extremely proud that our achievement has been recognized by C2-MTL by awarding us the prize for Aviation & Aerospace for 2013.”
