The LPS (lightning protection system) tester payload for the Voliro T UAS provides full circuit resistance measurements of onshore and offshore wind turbine LPS, with no access to the hub or nacelle required unless bridging a spark gap in the hub. The needle probe is capable of establishing an electrical connection with the lightning receptors even if they have been oxidized, and pushes with a constant force of 2 kg.

The payload is tethered to a ground-based unit that features a cable management system, as well as an ohmmeter that is grounded to the base of the turbine or tower under inspection. This setup utilizes 4-wire resistance measurement, in order to exclude the resistance of the testing cables and provide more accurate results.
