SCS Parylene coatings provide highly reliable protection against moisture and chemicals, and can be applied to virtually any surface material, including metals, elastomers, resins, plastics, and ceramics.
With uniform thicknesses ranging from a few hundred angstroms to several mils, the pinhole-free and ultra thin film coatings have next to no effect on the size and mass of their targets, making them ideal for SWaP (size, weight and power)-constrained systems.
The unique properties of Parylenes make them ideal for coating electronic circuit boards, sensors and other components used in UAV and unmanned vehicle subsystems, including fuel and engine systems, flight control electronics and more. These properties include:
Chemical and corrosion resistance – Parylene provides an effective barrier against corrosive liquids, fluids and gases, including harsh aerospace chemicals, and is insoluble in all organic solvents up to 150°C.
Dielectric properties – The continuous thin film coatings formed in the Parylene deposition process provide high dielectric strength and low dielectric constants, allowing electrical signals to be transferred through without absorption or loss.
Thermal protection – Parylene N, ParyFree® and Parylene C are expected to survive continuous exposure to air at 60, 60 and 80°C respectively for 10 years. Parylene HT® has been demonstrated to survive continuous exposure to air at 350°C, with excursions to 450°C for less than 24 hours.
Cryogenic performance – Unsupported 50.8 μm thin films of Parylene C can be flexed 180° six times at -200°C before failure occurs. Steel panels coated with Parylene C and chilled in liquid nitrogen at -196°C have withstood impacts of more than 11.3 Nm.
Optical & UV properties – Parylenes are optically clear and also deliver unparalleled UV stability, providing protection from degradation and discoloration.
