Fizoptika FOG IMUsFizoptika Malta has developed a new range of IMUs (inertial measurement units) based on fiber optic gyro (FOG) and MEMS accelerometer technology. The lightweight and compact U Series is designed to fulfil a variety of unmanned systems requirements, including inertial navigation for UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), UUVs (unmanned underwater vehicles) and USVs (uncrewed surface vessels), and drone flight control.

The first two entries in the U Series have been launched at the International Drone Technology Exhibition 2022 (SITDRONE) in Peru. Both the U183 and U121D are non-ITAR units.

The U183 features an ultra-compact cylindrical form factor, with a diameter of 46mm and height of 111 mm. It delivers low noise performance with ARW of just 0.03°/√h and is available in either aluminium or μ-metal housing.

The U121D is housed in a robust aluminium enclosure and consumes just 1.5W of power. The high-performance IMU features a bias of 3°/h) and ARW of just 0.05°/√h.

Both units include a fully-integrated ADC board with RS422 serial communications, providing user-adjustable data rates of 0.1 to 4 kHz.
