XPONENTIAL 2016 – the UST Round-Up

More than 8,000 attendees and over 600 exhibitors attended XPONENTIAL 2016, the annual AUVSI trade show last week, held in New Orleans. It was a busy week, with exciting announcements from many of the companies in attendance – here’s our round-up:

Aeryon Labs announced that Persistent Systems’ Wave Relay technology has been integrated into the airframe of the Aeryon SkyRanger sUAS. This integration will enable Command and Control (C2) and video downlinks from the sUAS into a Wave Relay MANET. Read more…

Trimble released the Trimble MB-Two, a GNSS module that delivers highly accurate GNSS-based heading plus pitch or roll in an advanced industry standard form-factor for system integrators. The module delivers fast and stable centimeter-accurate position and heading information for a variety of unmanned and military applications. Read more…

FLIR Vue Pro RFLIR Systems unveiled the FLIR Vue Pro R, a thermal imaging camera for commercial UAS. With radiometric functionality, it gives drone operators the ability to save pictures for post-flight image analysis and accurately measure the temperatures of individual image pixels. Read more…

VectorNav Technologies launched a next generation family of high-performance Inertial Navigation Systems (INS). Built on a common tactical grade proprietary MEMS inertial sensing core, the ‘Tactical Series’ incorporates a 3-axis gyro with <1˚/hr in-run bias stability, leading to an attitude accuracy of 1 to 2 mrad. The enclosure is designed to DO-160G standards and rated IP68 for deployment in harsh and extreme environments. Read more…

UAV Solutions announced that it has flown its Phoenix ACE LE UAS from a distance of more than 60 miles, utilizing a 4G LTE network for beyond line of sight (BLOS) capability. Read more…

Comprised of complementary web-based solutions – AeryonLive Video and Telemetry, and AeryonLive Fleet Management – the platform will enable more scalable and efficient UAS deployments in commercial and public safety segments. Fischer MiniMax 06Fischer Connectors launched an ultra-miniature connector, MiniMax 06. Designed for applications when space is limited, the MiniMax 06 can include up to 12 power and signal contacts in a footprint of only 10 mm. TEKEVER announced that the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) have selected the AR5 Life Ray UAS to participate in test flights this summer, to demonstrate how drones can facilitate maritime monitoring and surveillance. Read more…

Insitu unveiled that it will incorporate the ViDAR (Visual Detection and Ranging) payload into its fleet of unmanned systems, beginning with its ScanEagle UAS. The payload will offer operators a smaller, more cost-effective solution. Read more…

AeroVironment Mantis i45 Imaging GimbalAeroVironment launched its new Mantis i45 electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) gimbal payload for the Puma AE small UAS. Designed for both commercial and military applications, the Mantis i45 can identify targets more accurately and with greater detail while operating even farther away from the target. Read more…

FreeWave Technologies showcased its new ZumLink family of wireless IoT Sensor-2-Server (S2S) solutions. The flexible new radio design supports a link rate of up to 4Mbps and can support third-party applications, to provide customers with increased bandwidth and lower power consumption. Read more…

Echodyne announced the development of MESA-DAA, an Airborne Detect and Avoid (DAA) radar for small to medium-sized UAS. The small, lightweight, and low power DAA radar will operate at K-band and be capable of rapidly scanning a broad field of view in azimuth and elevation at ranges out to 3km. Read more…
