NovAtel announced today at Oceanology International (Oi) China, that NORBIT has selected NovAtel’s Synchronized Position Attitude Navigation (SPAN) product for integration into the new NORBIT iWBMS Compact Bathymetry Sonar. This combination of technologies produces integrated bathymetry solutions that are easy to operate and deliver previously unattainable miniaturization of the form factor.

NovAtel’s SPAN technology brings together Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) positioning technology and Inertial Navigation Systems (INS). When coupled with the STIM300, a Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) from Sensonor, it provides precision navigation for weight and sized constrained environments. It replaces previously bulky and cumbersome systems with high performance solutions that are smaller and more cost-effective.

Sheena Dixon, Product Manager, SPAN says, “NovAtel is pleased to partner with NORBIT in creating this revolutionary range of multibeam products, ultimately enhancing the hydrographic survey industry. By integrating the position and orientation sensor technology deeply into the multibeam system, users benefit from the ease of transportation and flexible installation due to the compact form factor. These products facilitate a short mobilization time with the fewer components and cables to install, all while achieving excellent sounding accuracy.”

Peter Koldgaard Eriksen, Business Development Director, Subsea, at NORBIT says, “We selected NovAtel as a partner in this new approach because NovAtel’s OEM technologies provide us with robust, compact solutions to further enhance our offerings. Through this collaboration, we are achieving new possibilities and industry-changing innovation which will set us apart and benefit our customers.”

Throughout Oi China, samples of NovAtel’s GNSS/INS products will be on display at booth E01 and NORBIT’s subsea products will be at booth A09.
