Silent Muffler for Small UAVs
UAV Factory, specialists in unmanned composite airframe development and manufacturing, have announced details of their low-noise muffler for small unmanned aircraft vehicles. After 7 months of extensive development and testing, the Silent muffler is now available as an option for the Penguin B unmanned aircraft.
Silent muffler is the UAV Factory’s proprietary product that is optimized for lowest detectability range, without sacrificing the maximum power output of the engine. Design is based on extensive simulations using advanced finite element analysis tools for internal flow and acoustics. As result, quiet muffler offers unparalleled non-detectability range of less than 700 meters in cruise conditions.
The muffler has lower acoustic signature compared to the available COTS mufflers, but due to optimized exhaust gas flow offers up to 18% higher engine power output. The low internal resistance considerably improves engine fuel consumption. The design is based on numerous simulations using advanced finite element analysis tools for internal gas flow and acoustics.
